United Way of Central Alabama has received $214,700 to distribute to local organizations in Jefferson, Shelby and Walker Counties under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act of 2009 (ARRA). These funds will be distributed by the Local Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP), for which United Way serves as the administrative agent. These funds will supplement the Phase 27 EFSP funds already distributed this year. Congressional intent is for ARRA funds to be utilized to address great increases in unemployment and community need being seen by emergency service providers throughout the country.
