United Way of Central Alabama’s (UWCA’s) Women United members donate $1,000 or more to UWCA annually to provide individuals and families the tools they need to become financially stable, help ensure children are ready to succeed in school and offer opportunities for healthier lifestyles.

Our mission is simple yet bold: to inspire, educate and motivate women to become positive change-agents within our community through philanthropy, leadership and volunteerism.

All Women United members receive:

What is Women United?

Women United® is a global force of over 70,000 women. We fight for the health, education and financial stability of every person in every community. United Way of Central Alabama has over 1,600 members that contribute $4 million to the annual campaign.

Together, we will create lasting change to lift up entire communities by helping those who need us most.
Why United Way?

Never in our lifetime have we had such a significant opportunity to support our neighbors. Many people who historically did not need United Way’s help found themselves in different circumstances throughout these last few years. In fact, those on the brink were hit the hardest.

Helping fill the gap is part of the fabric of United Way. UWCA’s Community Crisis Fund awarded Crisis Fund grants to front-line programs to help fill the gaps where needed. This included helping families whose income was lost or reduced along with feeding children who were in remote learning situations and providing those lost meals they would normally receive at school. We were able to provide over 3 million pounds of food to clients throughout 2021.

While some are seeing light at the end of the tunnel, the impacts of the pandemic are far from over for our community The pandemic disrupted education, financial stability and health—the building blocks of opportunity—in ways that will have long-term effects on Central Alabama. Six local colleges have formed a partnership with Birmingham City Schools to provide 100 tutors to address learning loss due to COVID-19.

Accountability. Our United Way has one of the lowest administrative costs of any charitable organization, allowing 94 cents of every dollar to go directly to helping people, while keeping every dollar we raise here in Central Alabama. UWCA’s 10,000+ volunteers constantly evaluate our partner agencies who receive annual support to be sure the money is well and wisely spent.
