  • Free Transportation (Ride United)

    Through Lyft, United Way of Central Alabama is now arranging FREE TRANSPORTATION for qualified individuals.

  • COVID-19 Response Services

    United Way of Central Alabama, the Alabama Department of Public Health and the Jefferson County Department of Health are working together to provide assistance to individuals in Central Alabama, who are facing hardship resulting from the need to isolate due to COVID-19.

    Patients who have tested positive for, or been exposed to, COVID-19 within the last five days, and are required to quarantine, may qualify for assistance that could help keep their families safe and make isolation easier. By calling United Way’s 2-1-1 information and referral line, they can be screened to see if they may qualify for help in various ways, such as:

    • Food from grocery stores and restaurants
    • Short-term hotel accommodations
    • Transportation to doctors and hospitals
    • Laundry and cleaning supplies

    These are just a few examples of ways they might receive assistance by calling United Way’s 2-1-1 information and referral line, but there are strict guidelines to qualify.

    Patients should call 2-1-1 to be screened for qualification and to learn more about this special program.

    2-1-1 is your link to the Alabama Resources for Enrichment, Self-Sufficiency, and Employability Training (ARESET). This is Alabama’s name for the Employment and Training program for individuals receiving SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits.
