DESCRIPTION:Become an IRS-certified volunteer and help your community by providing free tax preparation services. Sign up now to make a difference this tax season.\nSign-up above for ONLINE training to complete the IRS Volunteer Certification to work on-site at United Way’s Tax Center\, helping our neighbors file their tax returns for free. \n\n\n\n\n\nTraining Details\nThis in-person training is designed for volunteers who can commit to at least 24 hours of service during the tax season\, available Monday through Friday\, from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Please note that UWCA’s Tax Assistance is not available on evenings or weekends. \nIf you are unable to commit to volunteering or cannot attend the in-person training\, a recorded Zoom version will be available for registration starting in early December. If you prefer classroom training\, please follow this link and register for one of the in-person trainings at United Way of Central Alabama: https://givepul.se/3hmqiy \nTraining Format\nAll in-person trainings combine basic and advanced topics into one comprehensive class. If you are new to taxes\, you may choose to complete the basic training on Zoom as an introduction\, though it is not required. \nVolunteer Responsibilities\nAs a volunteer\, you will engage with clients\, ask questions\, and ensure accurate and complete tax returns are filed\, helping taxpayers access eligible credits. Throughout the process\, you will have access to on-site tax specialists for any questions related to filing. \nOnce certified\, you can choose your volunteering days and times that best fit your schedule\, within the hours of 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM\, Monday through Friday. \nRequirements\n\nTime Commitment: Volunteers must commit to at least 24 hours during the tax season\, available from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM\, Monday through Friday.\nCertification: Volunteers must complete IRS Certification prior to volunteering. At the end of the training\, you will be prepared to take the certification test.\nBackground Check: United Way covers the cost of the background check for all volunteers.\n\nContinuing Education Credit\nUp to 14 hours Continuing Education Credit available after volunteering for the following Professional Groups: Certified Public Accountant\, Enrolled Agent\, Attorney\, Certified Financial Planner\, Participants in IRS Annual Filing Season Program (AFSP).
