Step 2: Kickoff

Now that you are getting ready to kick off your campaign, consider the following:

1. Host a kickoff event with a motivational speaker or your Loaned Executive.

  • Be sure to highlight the impact areas in the United Way brochure.
  • Show the campaign video.
      • Communicate giving options (such as payroll deduction).
      • Link to ePledge if available within your organization.
      • Announce due date of campaign pledges.
      • Promote donor networks and leadership giving opportunities.
      • Offer incentives during, and at the conclusion of, the campaign.Communicate giving options, incentives and deadlines.

2. Have follow-up meetings and communications after kickoff

  • Have a separate meeting with your leadership team (promote matches).
  • Determine if your company will give a corporate gift.
  • Communicate company progress toward a stated goal (goal thermometer).
  • Announce due date of pledges and follow-up to collect pledges.

3. Host a company-wide volunteer project

  • Coordinate with United Way to set up a volunteer project.
  • Determine scope and type of project with your United Way representative.
