Emergency Food and Shelter Program Funding

(Open April 1-April 30, 2024)

The Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program (EFSP), which provides funding made available through the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has awarded funds for distribution to qualifying agencies in Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, and Walker Counties.

UWCA manages the Local Board that is charged with distributing EFSP funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas. The Local Board will determine how the funds awarded to each jurisdiction are to be distributed among the emergency food and shelter programs run by local service agencies in the area, and it is responsible for recommending agencies to receive these funds and any additional funds made available under the program.

Eligible applicant organizations must:

  1. Be a Nonprofit, faith-based, and governmental organizations that provide food, shelter, and supportive services within the intent of the program.
  2. Past EFSP participation is not a requirement.
  3. Submit applications to the Local Board for funding.
  4. Must have a Unique Entity ID (UEI) Number- https://sam.gov/content/duns-uei
  5. Must have a Federal Employer Identification Number (FEIN) – http://www.irs.gov
  6. Maintain a checking account in the organization’s name for EFSP deposits.
  7. Pay vendors directly within 90 days for services provided.
  8. Submit required reports.
