At United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA), Chris Davidson is not only known for his technical expertise but also for his unwavering commitment to making a meaningful impact. Since joining the team in 2013 as a Technology Support Specialist II, Chris has been a vital part of the organization, bringing both skill and passion to his work.

A Birmingham Native with a Passion for Music

Chris’s journey began in the southwest Birmingham neighborhood of Powderly Hills, where he grew up as the youngest of seven children. A proud graduate of both Wenonah High School and Alabama State University, Chris developed a deep love for music early on. He played the sousaphone in several bands, and his passion for music continues to this day as a founding member of the UWCA band, where he plays bass guitar. (Composed entirely of United Way staff, the band is a popular feature at many employee events.)

Blending Technology and Teamwork at UWCA

It was his interest in technology, however, that truly shaped his career. Inspired by his older brother, who worked with computers, Chris became fascinated by the process of breaking down and fixing tech. This interest evolved into a career in IT, which eventually led him to United Way in 2013. Since then, he has played a key role in keeping UWCA’s complex systems running smoothly.

But what Chris loves most about working at UWCA is the people. His coworkers feel like family, and through the years, he has built many lasting friendships. “United Way allows me to do what I love to do and be who I am while working together with others to serve the community. It’s a win-win, and it doesn’t always feel like work,” Chris said.

For anyone considering a role at United Way, Chris affirmed, “United Way is a great place to work. If you want to give back to your community and make a difference in people’s lives, that directly aligns with our core values of putting people first, serving our community and doing the right thing.”

Chris is one of the many individuals making United Way of Central Alabama a place where passion, service and community come together.
