Last week, Checkers and Rally’s presented a $5,000 check to United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) to celebrate and support the success of programs to eliminate food insecurity in our community.
Half of the money was designated for United Way Meals on Wheels, while the other half will go toward our work addressing hunger specifically in the Fairfield community. To mark the occasion, Checkers and Rally’s brought the Fry Love Express to United Way’s Birmingham campus. In addition to presenting the check, they provided lunch for all staff onsite.
Erica Hernandez, Field Marketing Manager at Checkers and Rally’s, said the organization is glad to support work that is often unseen by others in the community.
“Thank you for all that you do for this community. I know it’s a ton of work, and I’m sure that nobody’s making millions of dollars,” Hernandez said. “Thank you, thank you, thank you from Checkers and Rally’s.”
April McMaster, Program Director of Meals on Wheels, said she was very grateful for the funding provided by Rally’s.
“We always appreciate any additional support we can get from our local business community here, and our friends at Rally’s have always shown that they care for residents in Central Alabama,” McMaster said. “Thank you all for your contribution to a program that is so needed for the many seniors across Jefferson County.”
UWCA currently has four full-time coordinators working in the Fairfield community to enhance and centralize people’s access to a range of services. Chivon Morse, Director of Place-Based Partnerships at UWCA, said the additional funding for United Way’s work in Fairfield would help to further their success in terms of improving access to food.
“Though our work in Fairfield is rooted in the relationships our coordinators continue to build with leaders throughout the city, additional funding always makes providing for people’s needs easier,” Morse said. “I can’t say how grateful I am that Rally’s has acknowledged the impact of work such as this. Thank you.”
