Helping Make Housing Happen
Since 2014, United Way of Central Alabama’s (UWCA) Housing Alliance has been approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) as a Regional Intermediary, which oversees and supports HUD-approved Housing Counseling agencies that serve individuals and families in need of housing assistance. Based on the belief that safe, stable, affordable housing is a basic human right, we are on a mission to increase the organized capacity of our Housing Counseling agencies to improve housing access and stability in their communities.
United Way Housing Alliance recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of HUD’s Housing Counseling program…and sent this video message to HUD.
UWCA Housing Alliance member agencies provide an array of housing education and counseling services to consumers in search of a home or in need of information about financing, maintaining, renting or owning a home. Our counselors also provide support to individuals who are homeless — or at risk of losing their homes — through homeless-prevention, rental and foreclosure counseling.
In 2018, UWCA Housing Alliance member agencies operating in Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi provided housing counseling services to 10,231 individuals and families.
