Record-Breaking Campaign Means Record-Breaking Community Support

After a record-breaking campaign, United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) is excited to announce that its Board of Directors has approved $28.9 million in funding to support a strong social services network of agencies, programs and services, providing vital support for those in need. UWCA’s annual investment in the region will fund member agencies and programs working to improve health, education, financial stability and access to services in our community.

“The allocations process ensures fiscal and program accountability for organizations receiving funding while addressing the needs in our community,” said Drew Langloh, President and CEO of United Way of Central Alabama.

As part of the annual funding process, 79 non-profit member agencies submit an application and provide detailed agency and program information that is reviewed by Visiting Allocation Teams (VATs). In 2022, a diverse group of more than 270 community volunteers participated in the VAT process by reviewing applications, meeting with agency leadership and visiting locations throughout Central Alabama. Kadie Peters, Vice President of Allocations and Grants, commented on the process saying, “We are so fortunate to have committed volunteers in our community who give their time to learn, visit and engage with our incredible network of member agencies. It’s a win-win for the agencies, volunteers and the community.” UWCA’s funds support a myriad of agencies, grants and programs across six counties – Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker.

United Way of Central Alabama is preparing to enter its 100th year. Having stood side-by-side with the community through everything from the Great Depression to natural disasters to the COVID-19 pandemic, UWCA is successful because of the generosity of its community members through their financial donations as well as the time and effort they give.

The UWCA vision statement says, “In 1923, leaders in Central Alabama were UNITED by the simple idea that members of a community can come together, pool their resources and work collectively to deal with community issues in a WAY that is more powerful than any one individual or entity alone. Today, this ideal still guides us. Our resources and partner network have grown, enabling us to drive solutions to complex problems.” The Central Alabama community is at the center of this vision. Whether serving on a VAT committee, donating to the annual campaign or helping provide services, volunteers stand at the center of all we do.
