United Way of Central Alabama and BBVA Compass recently hosted a Credit Repair Lunch and Learn for community members, staff and Individual Development Account enrollees. The free seminar offered helpful tips and tools to improving credit scores and maintaining good credit.
The seminar is a part of a series by United Way and includes financial industry partners that cover such topics as home buyer education, smart borrowing and holiday budgeting tips seminars.
“Learning that I can dispute things on my credit report was very valuable information to me,” said Chasity McCay, seminar participant.
C.J. Glover, Workplace Solutions Officer BBVA Compass, provided in detail what matters to credit bureaus and banks when it comes to credit scores. Other advice included smart ways to pay down debt and helpful tips to build credit such as using a credit card to make purchases that are normally paid for with cash like groceries and gas.
“This is one of the ways we give back to the community,” said Glover. “Everyone walked away with something they were able to use. I definitely can see doing more of these workshops in the future.”
The next free United Way seminar is a Smart Borrowing Lunch and Learn on Aug. 27, 2016. Visit www.uwca.org/events to register and see the complete list of dates.
