What is a planned gift? Planned gifts, or legacy gifts, are specifically designed to support United Way of Central Alabama’s (UWCA’s) endowment. These are given separately from an annual campaign contribution and provide long-term support and a safety net for the community’s evolving or unforeseen needs. UWCA’s endowment specifically supports initiatives such as Success By 6, provides matching dollars for current and future gifts and provides for perpetual gifts to the annual campaign. Additionally, the Board of Directors can approve funds from this pool to be used as a response to emergency needs in our community, such as tornadoes or the COVID-19 pandemic.
This is a special year to be involved with United Way, as we are celebrating our centennial anniversary. As we commemorate 100 years of service and get ready to kick off the next 100, here are five ways that you can be involved through planned giving:
- Make a bequest.
- Donate appreciated stocks or securities.
- Make UWCA a beneficiary of your IRA, qualified retirement plan funds or a life insurance policy.
- Select UWCA as a recipient of your Donor Advised Fund.
- Make a blended gift that best suits your needs.
As of 2022, United Way’s Endowment is valued at $67 million including outright and deferred gifts. As exciting as this is, we have an even more exciting goal for our centennial anniversary – raising the endowment fund to $100 million in honor of 100 years.
Planned giving is a great way to leave a legacy that will support and improve the lives of our grandchildren and their children during the next 100 years.
