Honoring Veterans Every Day of the Year

Priority-Veteran-LogoEven though Veteran’s Day is November 11th, United Way honors veterans every day of the year through the Priority Veteran initiative. This year United Way’s Priority Veteran has helped stabilize over 700 veterans and their families struggling with homelessness. Priority Veteran’s goal is to help veterans gain the skills and knowledge to become financially stable.

Veterans work closely a Priority Veteran case worker to create a stable housing plan, receive medical and mental health services, enroll in veteran’s benefits and receive financial coaching.  United Way’s Priority Veteran, which has operated for three years in four Alabama locations, has served more veterans in 2016 than ever before:

  • Birmingham office: 209 veterans
  • Huntsville office: 208 veterans
  • Tuscaloosa office : 176 veterans
  • Tuskegee office: 121 veterans
