If there is one person in the Greater Birmingham area who can capture everyone’s attention by taking off his jacket and rolling up his sleeves, it is legendary ABC 33/40 weatherman James Spann.

That is what the United Way of Central Alabama is counting on when they join forces with Spann on Thursday, September 10th at 10:00am for the first ever virtual kickoff of the 2020 United Way Campaign.

Much Different

Like major events everywhere around Birmingham, the 2020 United Way Campaign Kickoff has gone virtual.

“This is far different from any kickoff we’ve done,” said John Martin, United Way Senior Vice President for Resource Development. “Usually the kickoff  is an hour or hour and half long luncheon. About half of the program are comments from the Campaign Chair and Pacesetter Chair.  We bring in a motivational speaker to pull people’s heart strings and motivate them to go out and raise money.”

According to Martin, the virtual event will be shorter, about 15-20 minutes, so you do NOT need to set aside a majority of the morning traveling to a venue nor listen to lengthy presentations.

What to Expect

Expect to hear from United Way’s 2020 Campaign Chair Greg King and Pacesetter Chair Joe Hampton.  During their presentations there will be a few surprises including a memorable (see our feature photo) appearance by Spann.

This is a FREE event and open to EVERYONE!

Lighthearted Program and an Important Year

“This is really an important year for people to answer the call for our community,” stressed Martin. “It will be a lighthearted program that will bring us together, so we can make “hope happen” for people in our community who need it most.”

We look forward to seeing you virtually on September 10th at 10:00am.
