Online and On-site, Volunteers Take Action!

Volunteers braved the heat to get the Bush Hills Community Garden ready to grow!

On June 21st, United Way Hands On, the volunteer center of United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA), celebrated Day of Action. The annual event is held on or around the longest day of the year, giving volunteers a chance to put the extra daylight to use for the good of our community.

The COVID-19 pandemic meant that many meaningful volunteer opportunities had to be conducted online, giving volunteers the option to take part from the comfort and safety of their homes through projects such as crafting kindness cards for seniors. Plenty of participants, however, including employees from T-Mobile and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama, helped with on-site projects such as sorting food at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, preparing the Bush Hills Community Garden for planting and distributing food bags to seniors and veterans.

United Way of Central Alabama and United Way Hands On would like to thank all the 2020 Day of Action participants for coming together in service to our community. To learn more about current and upcoming volunteer opportunities, visit INVOLVE, UWCA’s online volunteer platform.

Masks can’t hide these smiles! Employees from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Alabama had fun while giving back.
