The United Community Center (The Riley Center) is located in the Southwest Birmingham neighborhood known as Riley-Travelick.
The United Community Center was established in 1903 by a group of Methodist women who saw the need to take care of the wives and children of the men who worked in Birmingham’s mines and factories. The current location was purchased in 1978 and became known at the Riley Center. A United Way Partner Agency since 1981, this multi-service community center focuses on the needs of the community through support, assistance with daily needs, socialization, and education.
To take care of the families who strive to make this community a safe place to live and play, to give the seniors comfort and socialization, and to give the children the confidence to excel.
