State Farm and United Way Mark Five Years as Partners in Preparedness

September is recognized nationally as Disaster Preparedness Month, a timely reminder of the importance of planning ahead for the unexpected. At United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA), our Financial & Housing Education (FHE) program is proud to partner with State Farm to help households strengthen their resilience before disaster strikes.

Since 2020, State Farm has supported FHE through annual grant funding, enabling us to provide critical education around financial stability and preparedness. Beyond financial contributions, local State Farm agents have generously shared their time and expertise as workshop presenters, helping families understand how to create emergency plans, safeguard important documents and ensure they are properly insured.

On September 30th, local State Farm Agent Vivian Mora will lead a free community workshop focused on disaster preparedness. Mora brings firsthand experience, having supported families rebuilding after devastating tornadoes across Central Alabama. She will guide participants through the essentials of readiness, from assembling an emergency kit to creating a household plan.

Reflecting on the value of this ongoing collaboration, Doug Horst, Program Director of UWCA’s Financial Stability Services, said,

“State Farm has been a vital partner in advancing our Financial & Housing Education program. Their commitment goes beyond grant funding. Agents like Vivian Mora roll up their sleeves and walk alongside families, offering practical tools to prepare for life’s unexpected challenges.”

This month also marks the fifth anniversary of the partnership between State Farm and FHE. Through the years, these workshops have empowered hundreds of households across Central Alabama to weather financial and personal storms. It’s one more way that we’re equipping families with knowledge and resources necessary to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Join us on September 30th at 11:30 a.m. to learn how you can prepare your household for emergencies. This free session is part of our ongoing mission to support families not only in moments of crisis, but also in planning for long-term stability and peace of mind.
