United Way of Central Alabama is collaborating with other United Ways, 2-1-1 Call Centers and disaster organizations in areas impacted by Hurricane Michael. Anyone who needs help related to Hurricane Michael can contact United Way 2-1-1, a free hotline providing information and resources, such as shelter, food, water, and other basic needs before, during, and after disasters, simply by calling 2-1-1. Hurricane Michael information and updates are also available by texting MICHAEL to 898-211.
The following are support options for Hurricane Michael victims:
• United Way of Central Alabama has created a donation website for those affected by Hurricane Michael. To donate, please visit http://www.uwca.org/hurricane-Michael/ and select the “Give Today” button. 100% of donations will go directly to impacted areas.
• Our 2-1-1 Call Center is expecting a high influx of calls and is recruiting volunteers to support its staff throughout the recovery process. If you’re in Central Alabama and you want to know how to donate or volunteer, you can call United Way’s 2-1-1 Information Center. If you know someone in an affected area, tell them there is a 2-1-1 Information Center in their area available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
United Way also supports partner agencies, such as the American Red Cross and Salvation Army, so they are prepared to immediately respond in disaster relief efforts.
