How United Way of Central Alabama supports Walker County
United Way improves lives and community conditions by addressing specific areas of need through donor support, state and federal grants, key partnerships, coalitions, strategic planning and our own ongoing community service programs.
Walker County has been in the service area of United Way of Central Alabama since 1970. During this time, there have been steady increases in campaign support, available services and volunteer support. The Walker County campaign is comprised of industry, small business, professionals, public employees and individual contributors.
Walker County Agency Spotlight
Salvation Army – Walker County
The Salvation Army Walker County is dedicated to meeting every person’s basic human needs. When the agency recently learned of an eight-year-old boy who had called a church asking for food for his family, staff went to work to meet the need. After speaking to the boy and his mother, it was discovered that they had nothing to eat, no transportation and ongoing domestic situations. The Salvation Army purchased a cart-full of groceries, delivered them to the family’s apartment and worked to help with additional resources. With tearful thanks, the family was assured that the Salvation Army would continue to be there for them, just as it is for countless other Walker County residents in need.
