Choice Neighborhoods Grant Awarded to City of Birmingham

Congratulations to the City of Birmingham and the Housing Authority of the Birmingham District!

On Thursday, July 27th, Marcia L. Fudge, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, announced that Birmingham will be the recipient of a $50 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grant that will revitalize neighborhoods in the Smithfield Community. United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) is honored to be a key partner in the development and future implementation of the grant. Karla Lawrence, UWCA’s Senior Vice President of Community Initiatives, said, “This a great opportunity for our city, and we are excited about our continued partnership with the Department of Community Development at the City of Birmingham.”
