Cleo Crawford, Regions Bank HR Operations Specialist and longtime United Way volunteer, is living proof that the Loaned Executive Program doesn’t just strengthen our community—it shapes tomorrow’s business leaders.
Cleo’s journey shows how hands-on experience with United Way helps professionals grow skills in leadership, communication and relationship-building that carry back into the workplace.
From Volunteer to Leader
Cleo first connected with United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) through volunteer opportunities at Regions Bank, where she has worked for 23 years. That experience inspired her to join the Loaned Executive Program, a decision that stretched her professional skills and gave her new insights into leadership that continue to influence her career today.
Through the program, Cleo gained confidence speaking with executives, motivating employee groups and managing campaigns that raised critical funds for community programs. She later expanded her leadership through other United Way roles, including serving on the Visiting Allocation Team, joining Women United and co-chairing the J. Mason Davis Leadership Society. Each role deepened her understanding of community needs while sharpening the leadership qualities she brings back to Regions Bank.

From helping drive our annual campaigns to leading through service, her commitment to others shines in all she does.
Growing Through Service
Since joining the UWCA family, Cleo has taken on many roles that have strengthened her leadership and helped drive impact across Central Alabama. She has:
- Participated in the Loaned Executive program as both a Fall and Pacesetter Loaned Executive.
- Served on the Visiting Allocation Team.
- Joined Women United.
- Co-chaired the J. Mason Davis Leadership Society and now serves on its Steering Committee.
Each experience has given Cleo a closer look at how UWCA supports local individuals and families every day.

Why Loaned Executives Matter
The Loaned Executive Program is more than volunteer service; it’s a leadership development experience. Over 13 weeks, participants step into real-world leadership roles: motivating employees, presenting to executives and managing workplace campaigns. These skills translate directly into stronger business leaders who are better prepared to manage teams, build relationships and drive results.

Loaned Executive Program Details
- Program Dates: August 25th to November 21st
- Who Can Apply: Recent grads, retirees, consultants or professionals looking to grow their leadership skills.
- How It Works: Some companies loan employees to UWCA. Others sponsor individuals who apply directly.
- Requirements: Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation and proof of automobile insurance.
- Apply by August 8th (applications reviewed on a rolling basis).
