About Priority Veteran
Priority Veteran works with United Way of Central Alabama to help Veterans and their families find stability, build connections and access support.
Our work includes two distinct programs: Priority Veteran SSVF, which focuses on housing stability, and SSG Fox Suicide Prevention, a new program being developed to provide community-based suicide prevention support.

Through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program, we help eligible Veterans and their families who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their housing.
Our team provides personalized case management, helps participants navigate housing options and connects them with benefits and community resources. Together, we identify needs and develop goals that support lasting housing stability.
Priority Veteran SSVF serves designated areas of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle.
SSG Fox Suicide Prevention: Expanding Our Support
Priority Veteran has received funding through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program to develop a new community-based suicide prevention program.
SSG Fox Suicide Prevention will serve Blount, Chilton, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties. The program is being developed to help eligible Veterans and their families connect with support and resources that address factors contributing to suicide risk.
Suicide is complex and has no single cause. Community connections and access to support can play an important role in prevention. We will share details about services, eligibility and referrals as the program develops.
More Than a Decade of Housing Support
From its beginning in 2013 through the end of 2025, Priority Veteran SSVF served 5,094 Veterans, helping Veterans and their families work toward stable housing.
As we develop SSG Fox Suicide Prevention, we are building on that history to expand the ways we support Veterans and their families.
