Celebrating Black History Month with United Way of Central Alabama

UWCA is celebrating Black History Month with brief stories from our own staff and community volunteers. We asked them one question: Who is your Black History Superhero? Today’s respondent is Martina Winston, one of our very active volunteers with UWCA’s J. Mason Davis Leadership Society. Martina is Vice President & Senior HR Partner at Protective Life Corporation, where she also serves as Diversity & Inclusion Leader.

“My grandfather is my hero,” said Martina. “He has not only been a great role model as a black father/grandfather and head-of-household but has demonstrated the value of serving and giving back to the community. Today, he is 93 years old and is still serving to this day. His passion for his community was always been attractive to me and I appreciate him every day for showing me the importance of serving people. I’m passionate about the opportunity to serve with an organization [United Way of Central Alabama] that shares the same values that I have around supporting people and the community.”
