Thanks to a collaborative effort between UWCA, Childcare Resources and the Women’s Foundation of Alabama, owner Crystal May celebrated the expansion of Little Royalties Child Development Center in Hueytown. Hers is the first childcare center in Jefferson County to benefit from both funding and the small business cohort that ELAI offers. After graduating from the Advancing Alabama Child Care Accelerator and receiving a Childcare Expansion Grant through ELAI, the center has increased access to early education for 55 additional children in the Hueytown area.

A cohort led by the Women’s Foundation of Alabama enabled leadership at Little Royalties to receive targeted training and support to strengthen their business model, enhance operational sustainability and prepare for growth. The center also received $25,000 in infrastructure funding from UWCA, helping it meet licensing requirements and ensure a safe learning environment for children.
“This is not just a daycare,” May told Fox 6 News, “It’s a development center. So we want to create great outcomes with families, period — kids and their parents.”
The Early Learning Acceleration Institute strives to build a stronger foundation for children, families and communities by equipping providers with the tools and resources they need to succeed. Increasing the number of children enrolled in high-quality early learning programs ensures more children across Central Alabama can enter kindergarten ready to learn, grow and thrive.
