Step 1: Preparation
Set the Foundation
Before launching your United Way campaign, take the following steps:
1. Identify an employee or team of employees to coordinate the campaign efforts and have them attend coordinator training.
- Ideal duration is 2–3 weeks.
- Identify date(s) and time(s) for employee meetings where employees are able to hear United Way message.
- Consider dates for a kickoff event, volunteer project(s) and celebration.
2. Select dates for your company campaign.
3. Promote Key Dates & Events.
Spread the word about major campaign activities—like your Kickoff , Volunteer Projects and Celebration —using a mix of communication tools tailored to your workplace.
Choose the channels your employees engage with most to keep campaign events visible and top of mind.

4. Work with your Loaned Executive to coordinate engagement throughout the campaign.
- Identify dates, influencers and impact speakers to attend employee and/or team meetings.
- Determine best promotional items to include in campaign activities (i.e. brochures, posters and other co-branded items).
