Comparing and choosing Medicare prescription drug coverage (commonly known as Part D) can feel overwhelming. Plans vary widely in cost, coverage and the medications they include. So reliable information and personalized guidance are especially important.
The State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), a program of the United Way Area Agency on Aging that provides free, unbiased Medicare counseling, will host Bring Your Own Device: Navigating Your Part D Options on Wednesday, November 11th, from 9 a.m. to noon at United Way of Central Alabama’s (UWCA) Alice Williams Building. This free, hands-on workshop will help Medicare beneficiaries and caregivers explore and compare prescription drug coverage options in order to make informed decisions.
Navigate Your Part D Options
SHIP counselors will demonstrate how to use Medicare.gov and the Medicare Plan Finder to compare Medicare Part D prescription drug plans. Attendees can follow along on their own devices, such as laptops and tablets, and explore options based on their medications and coverage needs.
The workshop will cover:
- Navigating Medicare.gov.
- Using the Medicare Plan Finder.
- Comparing prescription drug plans.
- Reviewing plan costs and coverage.
- Identifying potential savings.
- Understanding Medicare Savings Programs.
- Accessing additional cost-saving resources.
Participants are encouraged to bring:
- A tablet or laptop.
- Their Medicare card.
- Current insurance cards.
- An up-to-date list of their prescription medications.
Having this information available will allow participants to seek out and evaluate plans that best meet their individual needs.
Make Informed Medicare Decisions
Whether participants are new to Medicare or have been enrolled for years, learning how to compare plans can help them make better, cost-effective decisions about their healthcare coverage. The workshop will also introduce programs and resources that may help eligible beneficiaries further reduce their out-of-pocket expenses.
