United Way Day of Action Brings Out the Goodness in Our Community!

Every year, volunteers from throughout Central Alabama come together to work hard to better our community on United Way Day of Action. The event falls on or around the longest day of the year, giving volunteers extra daylight hours to help bring about positive change. Like many other events, United Way Day of Action 2020 will be different this year: while volunteers from across the community will engage in volunteering, many will do so from their homes.

As we support the health and well-being of our community through physical distancing, we recognize that the desire to help others by giving back remains strong. Here are some ways you can volunteer:

  1. Kindness Cards
Writing words of encouragement lets seniors know they are not alone and others are thinking of them.
  2. Food Insecurity
Volunteers are needed for food sorting and packing donations. To ensure physical distancing, volunteers MUST register for a shift and will be required to wear a mask.
  3. Community Garden
Volunteers are needed to help the Bush Hills Community prepare the community garden for the summer. Physical distancing and masks will be required.
  4. Veteran and Senior Food Insecurity
Volunteers are needed for unloading trucks, distributing food-pantry bags and assisting seniors by taking food bags to their cars. Physical distancing and masks will be required.
