United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) connects community members with volunteer opportunities, events and campaigns that allow you to make a positive impact and improve life for us all. We have a range of options to choose from throughout the year.
Here are the three main avenues for volunteering with United Way:
Meals on Wheels
Through the Meals on Wheels program, UWCA delivers hot and frozen meals, five days a week, to more than 1,500 seniors who are homebound throughout Jefferson County. You’ll be helping ensure that these seniors receive the healthy nutrition they need on a continuing basis. Deliveries generally take one hour or less and you can choose a schedule that fits your availability.

Every year, hundreds of volunteers visit each of UWCA’s 79 partner agencies to help determine how United Way allocates the funds raised through its annual campaign.
These Visiting Allocation Teams, designed to be broadly representative of our community, hear presentations from the partner agencies and success stories about the work they do, as well as the need for future funding. The process, in which team members maintain unbiased objectivity, is a vital part of maintaining strong, productive relationships between the agencies and UWCA while fostering a better understanding of our community’s needs.

United Way Hands On, the volunteer center for UWCA, connects community members to volunteer opportunities with partner agencies, other United Way programs such as Free Tax Preparation and many other ways to do meaningful work, including school clean-ups, community park and garden projects and construction.
In addition to opportunities for individuals, Hands On also works directly with companies and other groups and organizations to set up easy ways for their employees and members to participate in community service projects.
