Birmingham Area Media Is United for United Way

Now more than ever, it’s important for our community to come together. That’s why Birmingham’s broadcast media is putting aside competition to Unite for United Way by encouraging their audiences to support United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) and our network of more than 100 partner agencies and programs.

When we LIVE UNITED, hope happens!

Media partners include television stations WBRC FOX 6 News, WVTM 13, and ABC 33/40, CW21, My 68 and WIAT CBS 42, as well as more than 31 radio stations from groups such as SummitMedia, Cumulus Media and iHeart Radio.

On September 30, 2020, each station will raise awareness of United Way’s impact throughout Blount, Jefferson, Shelby, St. Clair and Walker counties by highlighting various partner agencies and programs. Many of those featured, such as the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, Meals on Wheels and YMCA of Greater Birmingham, have played key roles in supporting the community through the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, further solidifying UWCA’s role as Central Alabama’s safety net.

“In times of need the people of Alabama always unite and support each other,” said Susana Schuler, WVTM 13 President and General Manager. “We are proud to Unite for United Way.”

Leaders from other broadcast partners expressed similar sentiments, highlighting once again the community’s commitment to UWCA. This is especially appreciated given the unorthodox nature of the 2020 annual campaign, which has relied on innovative new approaches to fundraising and engagement in light of the Coronavirus crisis.

“This is an exciting new addition to our campaign,” said John Martin, Senior Vice President of Resource Development at UWCA. “We are thankful that Tom Luckie, a dedicated United Way volunteer and Media Division chair, is navigating this one-voice awareness.”
