Being a leadership donor at United Way of Central Alabama (UWCA) is about much more than giving. It’s also about enriching experiences and personal fulfillment, knowing that you’re part of something bigger than yourself. And knowing that you’re making a difference in other people’s lives.
The 2025 kickoff event for Leaders United brought together members of Women United, the J. Mason Davis Leadership Society and the Young Philanthropists Society. Attendees mingled, heard about upcoming events and shared what their participation has meant to them, all while overlooking the Birmingham skyline from Vulcan Park and Museum.
Andrea Florio of Regions, for example, said that Women United has provided her with meaningful volunteer opportunities, helped her build relationships with other local women and ignited her passion for, and enabled her to learn about, issues close to her heart.
Other donors also highlighted similar experiences from their respective donor networks.
“The opportunities for networking, community engagement and learning from experts are invaluable for anyone looking to make a positive impact,” said Ike Matthews, from Spire Energy, of the J. Mason Davis Leadership Society.
“Being a part of the Young Philanthropists Society excites me because it provides an opportunity to make an impact in the community,” said Cal Horton, of Regions, “all while connecting with likeminded individuals who share a passion for the United Way and its partner agencies.”
Just a sampling of this year’s upcoming events and volunteer opportunities for each group include:
- Women United’s Volunteer Days with UWCA partner agency Habitat for Humanity.
- J. Mason Davis Leadership Society’s Book Packing & Distribution with UWCA’s Success By 6 program.
- Young Philanthropists Society’s Lunch & Learn events that address some of the community’s pressing topics.
