Thank you disaster fund donors!
Thank you to everyone who donated to the United Way Disaster Relief Fund to meet the immediate needs of people affected by last month’s tornado. We want you to know that your gift is at work helping those in Fultondale, Center Point, and Pinson start the rebuilding process.
Immediately after the tornado, United Way’s Community Initiatives and Programs staff began working with emergency management officials and the City of Fultondale to coordinate volunteer efforts. As of today, 114 United Way volunteers have spent close to 700 hours removing debris and sorting donations. Volunteers from the Central Alabama Building Trades also partnered with United Way Hands On to contribute heavy machinery to the cleanup. Their members have donated $45,000 in machinery and transportation costs. Anyone interested in volunteering can sign up on INVOLVE, United Way’s volunteer platform.
Our 2-1-1 Information and Referral Center is answering calls and sharing vital information 24/7. Through the years, the call center has become “Information Central” for how to give and get help in times of disaster, along with providing a caring voice to those in need.
United Way of Central Alabama has always played a unique role in the final phases of recovery with funds donated for that purpose. Looking ahead, this will most certainly be a long-term recovery. We will do our best to keep you engaged in the process.
