Making the Ask

  • Donor Pledge Forms
  • Pledge Cards
  • Online Fillable Major Giving/Matching Pledge Cards
  • Special Donor Outreach

When you recognize donors based on how they give and engage, you create stronger connections and inspire continued support.

Use the strategies below to connect with each segment of your donor base in a meaningful way.

    First-Time Givers

Welcome new donors with personalized appreciation.

    • Send a handwritten note or a quick thank-you email
    • Highlight them (with permission) in internal newsletters
    • Offer a small token of thanks or entry into an incentive drawing

💡 Tip: First-time giving is a big deal—make sure they feel seen!

    Increased Givers

Celebrate donors who grew their gift this year.

    • Acknowledge their increased support with a special thank-you.
    • Feature them in campaign wrap-up communications.
    • Use simple incentives to encourage continued growth.

💡 Tip: Recognition reinforces behavior—thank early and often!

    Volunteers

Honor those who gave their time as well as (or instead of) their dollars.

    • Send personalized notes of gratitude.
    • Recognize volunteers during employee meetings or in company-wide emails.
    • Consider a volunteer spotlight feature or certificate of appreciation.

💡 Tip: Volunteers are often your most passionate champions—celebrate them!

    Retirees

UWCA’s Retiree Program provides your former employees a way to stay connected with your company and active in the community.

Include retirees in your campaign with special events and solicitation letters. Recruit a retiree to be an advocate on your campaign team. As seniors, they are one of the fastest-growing segments of our population and often have the greatest capacity and desire to give back to our community. It’s easy to get started.

💡 Tip: Retirees often have the time, heart and resources to give back.

    Diamond Donors

Diamond Donors are individuals who have given to any United Way for 25 years or more. You can energize your campaign by incorporating Diamond Donors to share their giving testimony or implementing a thank you effort to show appreciation in your employee meetings. Ask individuals to self-identify as Diamond Donors and share those names with United Way.

🤝 Need Help With Donor Recognition?

United Way of Central Alabama offers custom support and resources for donor engagement. We’ll help you plan, personalize and deliver your thank-you strategy.
